key elements of our work?
1. workshops & programmes
We deliver a variety of innovative and exciting one-off
workshops or 4week programmes in clubs, communities,
and workplaces. Typically, participants learn the theory
behind walking for fitness, and practical aspects
such as posture, arm action, footwork and techniques.
While they generally cater for a mixed audience we have developed a range of workshops and programmes which specifically target groups such as older people, people with arthritis, etc. (see Programmes)
2. leadership training
We train both voluntary Walking Leaders and professional FitWALK Trainers.
voluntary leaders
We deliver Community Walking Leader Courses (Level 1 and 2) for the Irish Heart Foundation's Slí na Sláinte Programme. These training courses take place approximately 10 times per year and are mostly organised in conjunction with Local Sports Partnerships. For further information contact the Slí na Sláinte Office (see Contacts)
professional trainers
We organise training for exercise and fitness professionals on a regular basis to enable them deliver our workshops and programmes. (see Training )
3. walking gear
We test and stock fitness walking equipment such as stepcounters and walking poles that help you get better value from your walking. See the pages on Nordic Walking, ACTIVATORS and StepCounters.
